Jena is standing at her window, holding a drape partially open with her hand, looking intently at something. She shakes her head, obviously not pleased about whatever she sees. “I can’t believe this John.” There’s an audible sigh somewhere behind her and then John says, “What now?” Without even turning around, Jena says, “What do you mean what now? Jena pauses for a moment. She goes to sneak one more peek out of the drape, and quickly drops it again. “Shit,” she says. She finally heads off to get ready. A bit later, there is a knock at the front door. Jena yells out, asking John to answer that. Moments later, another knock. Still nothing. Jena approaches the door, muttering under her breath about how she has to do everything. She’s wearing a short skirt and a halter top that shows off her midsection and is held in place only by a zipper that goes from top to bottom in the front. She finds her neighbor Serene standing there. An almost audible gulp comes from Jena. “Hi. I’m Serene,” the neighbor says, extending her hand. Another small embarrassed laugh from Jena. “Well, can’t we just visit for a few moments until your husband is ready,” Serene asks. Using this as a great escaping point from the spying conversation, Jena quickly agrees. Both women head into the living room. Jena sits down on the couch first. She’s a bit taken aback when Serene sits too, but instead of on the love seat or opposite end of the couch, she ends up sitting right next to Jena. Jena quickly shifts on the couch to put some distance between them. Both women stare at one another for a few moments in silence. “So what’s your name,” Serene finally asks. Jena seems hesitant at first. “Jena,” she finally admits. “Nice meeting you finally Jena,” Serene says. “Like I said, I’m Serene.” Jena almost scowls. “Oh I know exactly who you are,” Jena says condescendingly. Serene just ignores the tone. “So that’s it… now I understand,” Serene starts. “You’re a fan, and just too shy to reach out.” Jena lets out a fake laugh. “I don’t fucking think so,” Jena hisses. Serene just smiles at her. “Well, then how do you know who I am,” Serene asks. “I mean, if you’re not a fan, then you should have no idea who I am right?” Jena doesn’t know how to answer at first. She looks around, almost afraid as if anyone will hear her. “Not that it’s any of your business… but my husband enjoys lesbian porn. Jena again, seems taken aback by the move, not sure how to respond. “That’s awfully nice of you,” Serene says. “Just looking out for my best interest right?” Jena nods her head as if Serene is finally getting it. Serene pauses a moment to take a good luck at Jena and what she is wearing. “You know what I think,” she starts. She gets up and moves a little closer on the couch. Jena looks around, unsure. “I think things are stale in your relationship. Suddenly John’s voice echoes from nearby. “Sorry Jena, gonna have to take a rain check on tonight. My buddy just got to town a day sooner than expected and I’m gonna run go meet him. We’ll go out this weekend,” he calls out. Jena can only mouth the words at first. “But John-” she finally squeaks out. “-you promised…” Her eyes locked onto Serene’s as she is calling out. A moment later, the front door closes. Serene gives an understanding shake of her head.
